We are sponsoring a
fiddle weekend in Asheville, North Carolina. Cost for the
weekend is $290 [hotels and meals not included].
It will consist of 14 hours of intense fiddle instruction,
starting at 7pm until 10pm on Friday night, resuming Saturday morning at
9am-12pm and from 2pm - 6pm and again on Sunday morning 10am-2pm.
The Workshop will be held at the Movement and Learning Center [above the
French Broad Food Co-Op [90 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville, NC; phone
828-255-7650]
Directions to the venue are as follows:
Take I-240 to Exit
4B, Go South on Charlotte Street and at the intersection of Charlotte
and Biltmore make a right on Biltmore. Go through one traffic light and
the Co-Op is a large yellow building on the right. The Movement and
Learning Center is upstairs.
This workshop is geared for intermediate and advanced fiddle students
only and is limited to 15 participants. Our focus for this
weekend will be learning to play backup/fill licks, constructing breaks
and working with a singer. We will probably concentrate on a few
classic cuts from the Bluegrass Album Band collection for the
Bluegrass Weekends and some of the Bob Wills classics for the
Swing Weekend in November. The Twin Fiddle Weekend will
feature some great twin fiddle instruction with Bobby and Aubrey Haynie
- those of you that have mandolins - bring them! Aubrey may do a
couple of hours of mandolin instruction if there is enough interest.
Asheville, North Carolina and the surrounding area is beautiful and we encourage
you to bring your family and friends with you. From hiking,
rafting and biking to driving the Blue Ridge Parkway to visiting the
many, many galleries of fine artisans in the areas. There are
plenty of activities both outdoors and indoors that will entertain all
tastes.
After registration,
we will send you a list of hotels that are near the workshop site or you
can go on-line and find many choices to suit all price ranges from the
beautiful Grove Park Inn and the Biltmore Estate to the more budget
conscience accommodations. All persons must be at least 16 years
old to register or have an adult/guardian with you.

For over 50 years
Bobby Hicks has set the standard for fiddlers everywhere through a
variety of styles. He reached national prominence in the 1950's with
Bill Monroe and the 1960's and 70's with various country and
western bands (most notably The Judy Lynn Show from 1963-1970).
For the past twenty-three years he played with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky
Thunder and Jesse McReynolds and the Virginia Boys as well as guest
appearances with various bluegrass acts, such as Earl Scruggs, J.D. Crowe and the New South
and The Blue Ridge Symphony.
Bobby
has had many requests over the years to do a teaching video and he's
finally done it. The video is now in stock and ready to ship.
